Tossits to maintain your car interior
- , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke
If I were to ask you about your car right now, would you say the interior looks like a trash dump or is it pristine like just off the showroom floor? My car used to fall into category of trash dump, and all of us, including me, wanted the inside of my car to be clean.
When I would get gas, I would gather all the tiny scraps of paper left from soda straws, coffee containers, wrappers of all kinds, and grocery slips all just contributing to the look of my messy car. And for about a day, my car would be clean. But then I would have to grab coffee, eat my lunch in the car, buy something and want to toss the receipt and my car would look sloppy again. I don’t know why, but I like a clean car. But it just didn’t happen. And then I found Tossits at the National Hardware Show.
Tossits are not a revolutionary way to keep your car clean. No, the idea is so simple it’s baffling that no one else thought of the idea. It’s a garbage bag that rests on the back of a headrest. It is there when you need to stash all the trash that collects in your car. It’s leak proof so you don’t have to worry about liquids getting all over your car. Tossits completely seal up and then you can toss the bag away.
There are so many uses for Tossits besides just the obvious trash pickup. How about wet shoes or wet bathing suits, dirty diapers, dog poop bags, melting ice cream cones, you probably have your own list of things that end up on the floor of your car. I like Tossits because they come 7 bags to a set. Once one bag is full you can just rip off the filled bag, seal it and throw it away and there will be a new Tossit bag waiting for you to use. The bags are held with a small bungee cord that will fit over any headrest.
Once you put it on, turn it to the back seat and start tossing the trash in the bag, and not the floor of your car. Tossits are on the website – they come in pink, in black, and sell for $12.99... plus they will have free shipping.
Now to the email….
Question: I have a shower with light gray grout. I have mildew stains on the grout that I can’t just scrub away. I know I can’t use any bleach-based product because it will lighten the color of the grout. So what is a safe cleaner for colored grout?
Answer: Zep makes Grout Cleaner and Brightener that is safe on colored grout. Apply to the grout area only, and let it work for a few minutes. Then clean with a stiff brush. Rinse with clear water.
Question: I have a stained table that has a few nicks in the surface. I have tried the putty that most hardware stores have, but I don’t like the look. It’s a beautiful table that I don’t want to refinish. So is there something else that I can use to cover up these nicks that would blend better than the putty?
Answer: Old Masters makes Scratchhide. What is different about Scratchide is that there is actual stain in the pen, not just a marker. Shake the pen, depress the tip of the marker on the nick in the wood. Wipe off excess. Reapply if you need to darken the area. You can use several colors to match the finish perfectly.
Question: Our deck has some steps that get slippery when wet. So anytime it rains, or the sprinkler system in on, the steps get slippery. Is there paint, tape or tread that would help keep the steps safe for us and our family?
Answer: There is a new tape made by Gription that is a multi-purpose gripping solution. It’s non-abrasive, anti-microbial, durable, waterproof, UV protected and then it GLOWS IN THE DARK. I love that part! So when you walk outdoors your steps would be easily seen and would not be a trip hazard. It is 2 inches by 10 feet that would be plenty of product to do three to four steps. Start with a clean deck step, cut to the desired length and peel and stick Gription to the surface. Then whenever you step down on those steps, you will not slip. Great question! This is a new product that I am going to highlight next week.
