Three Cloths for Cleaning
- , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke
If you are like me, you love microfiber cleaning cloths. My favorite is E-cloth. They are the Cadillac of microfiber cloths. And they are targeted cleaning cloths. There is E-cloth for glass and mirror, dusting, floors, stove top, bath, and kitchen. If you haven’t tried them, start with the one specially for dusting. It will change your life. I have many E-cloths, but I don’t like to use them for really messy jobs. So, I was really thrilled to see the new Libman Tear N Wipe cloths at Do It Best.
Tear N Wipe cloths are microfiber on a roll, just like paper towels. In fact, that is what Libman is proposing: a paper towel replacement. And for under $9.00, they are environmentally friendly and cost-effective. At this price, you can throw them away if the job is messy. But they can be washed if you want to reuse them for another cleaning job. I keep a roll in the car and in the kitchen. But Scotts has made a new paper cloth, not a towel. I want to share with you this unique product.
Scott On-the-Go is a pop-up cloth. You know, how your Kleenex pops up with a clean tissue when you need it. That’s the way Scott’s On-the-Go is packaged. It’s really convenient. Scott’s On-the-Go is a heavy-duty cloth that is soft to the touch, but tough enough to handle any messes. They advertise them for “away from home” messes. So, when you are on a road trip, camping trip, or just a day at the park, be ready for any messy job with this new cloth. Have you been to the park and have napkins at the table, and with the slightest breeze, they fly away. But with the Scott packaging, you won’t have that problem.
But my days with the little ones at the park are over. But my days of painting and staining furniture are just getting started. I love the fact that this cloth is tough enough to clean dirty furniture. After I strip furniture I will take it outside and rinse off any residue with this textured cloth. I use this Scott cloth to dry off my furniture. And then with one hand, I can quickly and conveniently pull up another cloth to keep cleaning or to dry my hands.
I know not all of you are painting fanatics, so here are a couple of other good ideas for using Scotts. Put them in a lunch box. If you are a teacher, keep them at your desk. I am going to use them at the store for cleaning shelves. And they are great for the garage. And like I said they are wonderful for in the car. The box is heavy-duty and laminated, so it will hold up well in the car. How many times have you spilled something only to find out you have no napkins in the glove box? Scotts On-the-Go is packaged with 70 cloths at a cost of under $7.00 works out to about 10 cents a cloth.
Next week will be a big week for me, and I want to share it with you. I have a new product, and I am going to give out samples with any order from the website from December 3, 2025, to December 9, 2025. It’s a whole story about how I received this product. And I want to share what I can with you. So, until next week……
Now to the email….
Question: We just had our front door refinished, and it looks fantastic, just like new. But the handle set looks bad. Before the door was refinished, we didn’t notice that the hardware looked bad. But now? It seems like it needs polishing because it’s dark in spots, but what polish should I use?
Answer: My guess is that the handle set is not solid brass but just plated. So, the dark spots you see are where you have lost the brass plating, and no amount of polish will change that. If you want to keep the set, spray paint it. Rust-Oleum makes a spray paint that holds up really well. I would spray paint it the color of your outdoor lighting fixtures. Dark Bronze is a great color, and I used it in my last house on some mirror doors that need a makeover.
