Solutions from Gription

  • , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke

Last week I answered a question from a reader about Gription and promised that I would write about it this week. Gription is a multipurpose gripping solution. In other words, it’s a tape. But to say it’s just a tape would be such an understatement and let me tell you how versatile Gription tape can be for you.

At work does your wireless keyboard slide around on your desk? What about your portable hard drive, monitor or stand? Put a strip of Gription tape on the back of these items and they will stay put on your desk. I put it on the bottom of my phone at work and now when I pick up the phone, it stays put.

At home you can put it on your tools. It will really help you with hand fatigue when you are working outside in the yard. Your hands won’t slip, and you will have a sturdy grip. It’s great to put on the handle of a cane, to help stabilize the grip of the person using the cane. Also, the handles on wheelchairs, on foot pads and other accessibility equipment.

Safety is my first though with Gription. Put it on the rungs of the ladder your use. My Dad always had running boards on his truck, and that is a perfect place for Gription. Cut a piece and place it on the box cutter you use all the time. You can cut Gription to any size with just of pair of light weight scissors and customize any grip solution. I would not use it in the bathtub, it’s not made for being underwater. However, place it on the steps of your deck, and patio and step securely.

And now Gription comes in a fluorescent that glows in the dark! Well, that opens up so many opportunities – at night when you apply to those deck steps…you will be able to see them. Is there a step to your patio, highlight it with Gription Tape. Do you have a flashlight in the garage, or the kitchen? Wrap it with fluorescent Gription Tape and when the lights go out, you can easily find the flashlights. Put a tiny slice on the light switch for your children so they can see at night.

Gription is latex free for those who are sensitive. It can be used outdoors and in the elements. Gription is non-abrasive so it is easy on your skin. A roll measures 2 inches wide and 10 feet long. It will not damage the things you to and will never scratch. Gription Tape is on our website, www.happyhandyman.com and can be delivered right to your door. I’m going to put a special price on the website to make Gription easy to try. Gription comes in clear, black and now glow in the dark. Go to the website and check it out!

Now to the email….

Question: Hi Trudy – love your articles and I collect them. I have a room in my home that does not have a ceiling light fixture, just a ceiling fan. So, when you walk into the room, it’s dark until you reach the lamp. What would you suggest that we use instead of just leaving the light on all day.

Answer: I have the same kind of problem in my back study. I always left a light on, so the room was not a dark cave when you walked in. But there is a bulb made by Fiet that is a motion detector bulb that fits in a regular lamp. It’s a 60 watt replacement LED bulb that will turn on when you're within 12 feet of the bulb. The shade on the lamp will not hinder the function. It’s an energy saving answer to a dark room.

Question: We had our house painted this last spring. I have been ignoring the paint that got spilled on the brick, but now since it’s cooler, I want to clean it up. Should I pressure wash it to remove the paint?

Answer: I would not pressure wash any brick. I knew someone that did, and the inside of the house received water damage because it went through the brick and damaged the sheetrock walls inside. I would instead use a paint remover, and I would suggest Soy Gel. Brush it on, let it work, and then rinse off with a hose.
