Projects for the Month
- , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke
I thought I would tell you about some easy fixes for your home, condo, or apartment that you might tackle for the month. They are all easy, and then I’d like to share some great information I learned while at the Do It Best Show in Indianapolis.
I like products that do two things at once. You know, like clean and protect, or clean and restore. And I can think of several products that I have used that work great. If you have a leather sofa, you know the older it gets, the softer and more comfortable it gets. But as it ages, the leather breaks down, and you see small scratches and possible loss of color in certain areas. Howard’s Leather Salve is a deep penetrating conditioner that revives old leather and protects new leather. It protects by using the finest oils to include Neatsfoot and Coconut oil. It restores suppleness to dry leather and reduces the look of scratches. Plus, it protects your leather furniture from future decay. On the website, I will show you a picture of a chair that is in my mom’s office that shows the difference of using Leather Salve and how it will protect your leather. If you have dirty areas of the sofa, like on the arms and headrest area, use Howard’s Leather Cleaner. It safely cleans smooth leather, removing dirt and grime. It’s a perfect product to use before using Leather Salve. It’s even good on vinyl and automotive finishes.
Do you have an air conditioner that drains into a bathroom sink or tub? It will cause the drain to stop up over time. So, use a safe drain opener to keep it running clean and clear. I like Green Gobbler. It comes in a liquid that easily pours down the drain. The minute that you notice that your drain is running slowly is the time to use Green Gobbler. The easy-to-grip bottle has two applications that you can use in tub drains, sink drains, and even toilets to keep them running smoothly. This formula is safe on pipes and septic systems. The first time I saw Green Gobbler, I was so amazed. Not because of the clog that it showed that it would go through, there are a lot of drain cleaners that work. No, after the rep finished his demo, I reached over to touch the clean pipe that he did the demo on. I was expecting to feel some heat from the product, but the pipe was cool to the touch. So, if your AC drains into one of your bathroom drains, keep it running by maintaining it with Green Gobbler.
Do you have a glass shower door? Are you in an area that has extremely hard water? Then you know how fast your glass shower door can stain and look cloudy from hard water buildup. You can clean your door with Delete Germ, but it will only be a matter of a month, and that beautiful, clear glass shower door will look sad again. But you can maintain that clear door with Invisible Shield Glass Protectant. By using Invisible Shield on a clean clear door, you protect it from staining. The glass protectant will fill all the imperfections in the glass so that the water just slides down the glass. But there is a second part to this lineup that will help keep your glass clean and clean for almost a year. The Invisible Shield Glass Cleaner will reinforce the glass protectant, so you keep that glass cleaner longer. It will just take minutes to protect.
These are some easy projects for you to try around the house that will give you great results. Now for some info from vendors at the hardware show.
Did you know there is a removable paint? Yes - I think you will see it soon, it’s called Unpaint. Their byline is paint, play, peel, and repeat. It’s really for decorations, not for painting your walls.
There is a fire blanket that is good for kitchen fires called Over and Out. All you have to do is throw it over the fire, and it smothers the fire. I think it might be better and easier to use than a fire extinguisher.
Scotch Brand Tape caught me off guard when I was asking them about new products. They make mounting tapes that he said were so strong that they use them on airplanes. He said they use it where they can to keep the aircraft light. I wanted to know if Southwest Airlines was using the tape, and where.
