Magic Sliders to Help You Move

  • , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke

I know I have talked about my New Year’s Day a lot in this article, the past few weeks, and it’s because I did a bunch of work that day. I also hurt my back doing ... how do I say this politely... ”stupid stuff”. You know, things like lifting more than I should, way more than I should. Since I have never broken a bone or really hurt myself, I think I am still pretty invincible. But on New Year’s Day, I hurt my back, and it put me out of commission for about two weeks. Let me share this story, and maybe you can learn from my mistake.

I have this iron bed frame that weighs almost 75 pounds, and it has two pieces, so roughly 150 pounds. A headboard and a footboard. It’s in my garage, and I’m not using it right now. Well, the truth is, it was my daughter’s, and I am saving it for my granddaughter. Which is silly, right? Because the chance that she will want it someday is probably next to nil, I am still saving it. Well, I wanted to move it behind a China cabinet (need to get rid of that too) so it would be out of my line of sight. So, I moved it… twice. I think it was that second move that did me in. And looking back, there was no reason to strain my back, not when I had Magic Sliders in my toolbox.

Magic Sliders are the original furniture sliders. They are made of a high-tech polymer (think Teflon) that reduces the friction between the furniture and the floor. Magic Sliders on the bottom of your couch, chairs, or tables make it so easy to move furniture, like it’s on skates. So, whether you want to move furniture because you are redecorating or to clean, Magic Sliders will help you do so with just a small effort. Instead of having to use brute strength and throw your back out. I have moved a piano, large wooden bookcases, and the desk that went with it without breaking a sweat or damaging my flooring. And that’s what can happen. You try to move something heavy and bulky, and when you push it along the floor, you hear a scraping sound, and that is the sound of damage... to your floor. To say nothing of what you are doing to your back.

Magic Sliders come in so many sizes now. The ones in my toolbox are large and can handle moving something as heavy as a refrigerator. But they also come in all sizes and shapes for use on the bottoms of chair legs, table legs, and couch feet. They have some that will nail, screw, or grip on, and others that are just adhesive backed. Magic Sliders will be a little more expensive than inexpensive sliders. But the quality shows through, as it can move up to 3,200 pounds over any surface. Carpet, tile, wood, or vinyl are not a problem for Magic Sliders. Those bookcases I moved from room to room were filled with books and moved easily from one room to another.

So, the next time you start moving things around the house or garage, stop, put a Magic Slider underneath, and move them like “magic”.

Now to the radio questions from last week…

Question: Trudy, I have pill bugs in some areas outside in the garden. They are eating my new seedlings. I have tried beer traps, but I still have damage. I just want to get rid of them- what can I use?

Answer: Use a product called Sluggo Plus. Wet down the garden and then sprinkle Sluggo Plus around the plants you want to protect.

Question: I have wood-stained baseboards in my home. In some areas, the finish looks dull and has lost color. I am selling the house. I just want to do a quick fix to make it look good for staging. Can you suggest something?

Answer: As long as the varnish is intact, let's try Restor-A-Finish. Remember, Restore goes down below the varnish and colors the wood underneath without stripping. You might want to use painter's tape or a painter's shield so that you don’t get Restore on the wall paint.
