Loose Joints?

  • , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke

Ok, I giggled when I typed that. Because at my age, that can mean a completely different thing than what I want to tell you about today. And it all started when I was researching WonderLok Em Tight Chairs.

I do a live radio show every Saturday on WOAI 1200. If you ever want to give a listen, you can catch it on IHeartMedia. I have always been lucky enough to have a radio show that aired at 3pm on Saturdays. Recently, they offered me a 9am time slot. Well, I jumped on that because I thought I could catch listeners before they ever got started on their day. What I didn’t realize is that I would have to be coherent at 9am. At 3pm, I was primed and ready for action. I had been helping customers all day long, and I was completely warmed up. My words would flow easily, and my thought processes were firing on all cylinders. Not so much at 9am. So, what I have had to do is plan my show on Friday afternoon and write myself a script. Which is not who I am. Like my sweet dad, “winging it” usually brings out my best material.

So, while researching Tight Chairs, I found this influencer demonstrating how to take apart a chair and glue it back together. It was a lovely mid-century modern piece with very loose joints that needed repair. Well, he went through the whole process of taking it apart, sanding the glue off the joints, and then gluing and clamping it all back together. And he did a great job. But all I could think about during the process was ...” Doesn’t he know about WonderLok Em Tight Chairs?”

Because Tight Chairs would fix the problem of loose joints in about 10 minutes, with NO clamping. I like that idea better. It’s what I call Plan B. I’m all about Plan B, because Plan A usually takes so much time and effort. And if you're like me, you don’t have an abundance of either one.

First, he took the piece apart. Plan B: Leave everything in place. Open your Tight Chairs foil pack. I suggest buying the .17 oz size because it comes with 2 applicator tips. Remove the childproof lid by squeezing the sides, then remove the cap. Now take the needle-nose dropper included and place it on top. It is a tight fit. So, if you need to, open it up just a little with a ballpoint pen. But don’t stretch it too much. The reason it’s a tight fit is that the glue is very runny. Just like the consistency of water. Before you start your project, I would protect anything that you don’t want to get Tight Chairs on. They show aluminum foil. Now locate the wobbly joint in your chair. If the joint is visible, apply Tight Chairs down into the joint. Glue all around the joint. Make sure the rung or leg of the piece is in the correct position, because once this glue starts to set, it’s permanent. If you can’t see the joint, just glue around the wood where it meets. Drip it down into the area where the joint will be. Since it’s like water, it will find its way into the joint. Now give it 5 to 10 minutes. No clamping required.

After the allotted time, test the joint. It will be solid. It’s amazing. And so simple. If you have several rungs or legs that are loose, do one at a time. Let each one set and then move to the next.

So, what can you use Tight Chairs on? Chairs are a given; it’s in the name. But it also works on table legs, dovetail joints in drawers, and wooden plugs. Do you have some loose staircase spindles or any part of the staircase that’s loose… use Tight Chairs. WonderLok Em says it also works on ceramic, fabric, and I’m wondering if it will work on leather.

You know this product has been around for a while, and I love that it works so well. It will make fixing wobbly joints so simple. So, if anyone sees the guy on YouTube who takes the chairs apart and makes that job a 2-day affair. Text him and tell him about Tight Chairs. He will be so grateful.
