Eclipse Wall Repair

  • , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke

While I was off on New Year's, I decided to tackle a project that I have ignored for quite a few years. I have this wonderful closet in my garage, and when I bought the house, I noticed there was a hole in the ceiling that I could see straight to the underside of the roof. Well, since I don’t spend tons of time in that closet except to store tools and extra household items, it’s easy to look at that hole and shrug my shoulders and promise to get to it. On New Year's, I decided to work on this hole for practice before I start on a patch in my study.

Dap makes Eclipse Patch which is a very easy repair patch that comes in 3 convenient sizes. A small 2” round good for where you have removed a screw and anchor. A 4” round that is good for damage from door handles, and a 6” round that is good for other bigger damage, and that’s the one I used. This patch is the simplest and fastest patch I have ever used. I admit what kept me from doing this project before was the mess of sheet rock, mud, and sanding, and the couple of days that it was going to take me to finish. With Eclipse, it’s a 20-minute task, no sanding, no mud or mess. Let me explain how it works.

Pick the size patch needed for your project. Push in any damaged edges to the inside of the wall in the area to be repaired. If the damage has left the drywall rough, lightly sand it to create a smooth surface. With the area clean and dry, remove the patch from the package. Pull off the white carrier sheet. Position the gray center circle of the patch over the center of the damage and feather it out to the surrounding drywall with your hands. Paint immediately with a thick coat. If you want to prime first, you can. But it’s not necessary. Once your paint is dry, you are ready for the next step. Remove the clear protective layer of the patch by pulling the pop-up tab. Now apply two more coats of paint for a seamless repair.

Eclipse is really good for smooth surface walls and ceilings. If you have a heavy texture, like sand, orange peel, or Monterey, you will need to apply texture with a spray or spackle before you paint the last two coats. I had none of that, so once I painted, I was done.

So, do you have an area that you are ignoring because of the two days of sanding and painting? Well, Eclipse Rapid Wall Repair Patch leaves you no more excuses.

Do you have a closet that is dark in the corners, and a regular bulb just casts shadows? Replace your bulb with a Triple Fold Out Flood Light Bulb from Litez All. I put one of these in the closet, and everything is so much easier to see with this bright bulb. Fits in a standard light socket and provides 2100 lumens.

Let me share some questions with you from the radio show….

Question: My toilet is whistling when it flushes. The minute the water stops, the whistling stops. What is causing the problem? How do I fix it?

Answer: The whistling is caused by hard water on the toilet fill valve. We have such hard water in San Antonio, and even small grains of it can cause the fill valve to strain and whistle. So just replace your fill valve. I like Fluidmaster 400A. It’s easy to install, and once you've done it, you never have to turn the water off when you replace it again. It’s adjustable from the water level to the tank size.

Quesion: I want to remove some decals that the previous renter put on a tub. The tub is a porcelain tub. And once I remove the decals, what can I use to clean the tub?

Answer: Lift Off makes Tape, Label, and Adhesive Remover. Use a straight-edged razor blade, lift up the corner of the decal, and spray with Lift Off. Continue to gently lift the decal and if you need, spray again with Lift Off. Lift Off will not damage the tube. Once you remove the decals, clean the tub with Delete Germ. That tub will sparkle and shine, and it will also be disinfected. Just remember clean quickly and rinse thoroughly. Completely rinse out the sponge.
