Convenient and Safe Fire Extinguisher

  • , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke

The last few weeks I have really been concentrating on the next book. I am trying to complete all updates before the first of September. And do you know what I found out? I have forgotten about some of the products that we have, and the answers in the book. A customer asked me about effervescence on her outdoor tile, and I had to look it up. And that was kind of embarrassing. But that just tells you, we cannot remember everything, all the time. We all need a little help. I had this employee that told me once if someone offers to help you…. take it. So here is a little help about fire safety in the home.

Fire Gone fire suppressant is a convenient, easy to use, fast, clean, and safe fire extinguisher to use in the home, office, and garage. It’s easy to use because you just point and spray. You don’t have to shake it up, it’s ready to use. You can use it on electrical and grease fires in the kitchen. If you are cooking outdoors on your BBQ pit, it can be used to extinguish a pit that gets out of hand. It would be smart to keep one on hand in your auto and boat. They are lightweight and reasonably priced. Clean-up is much easier than the normal foam type extinguisher. Just use a wet sponge and paper towel to dry. And since it will work on many different types of fires, you can have just this one.

I hope you don’t ever need this product, but in case you do let me explain how to use Fire Gone. When you purchase Fire Gone, make sure the expiration date is a few years out. I just checked on all the ones on our shelves and we are good. The next thing, it should have a black trigger and a pop top that you remove when you start to use. I would keep two on hand. They will work for about 20 seconds, which is plenty of time, however, if you miss you mark because you are alarmed, you have a backup product. When you spray your fire, it might flare up for just a second, but immediately afterwards it smothers the fire.

This is just one thing, which was not in the last book, but will be in the current book. So, if you haven’t ever purchased a book, it would be a great gift for a new homeowner. If you are a real estate agent, this would be a perfect closing gift. If your kids are out on their own, give them a reference manual to take with them. If you live in an apartment, this book is a great way to start fixing things yourself before you purchase that starter home. And since this is our 80th year in business…. This will be a very special book in many ways. Look for it on the website in November, just in time for a Christmas stocking stuffer gift.

Now to the email…..

Question: I want to refinish an old table. There are surface scratches, and white rings from moisture. The color has faded in some spots because it was in the sun. What do I do first? What stripper do I use? What sandpaper? And what is your favorite stain and varnish?

….just a heads up, I called this customer and got some more info from her.

Answer: Since your varnish is all intact, there is a simple way to take care of this table. It will take you all of five minutes and cost you less than $15.00 Go to your local hardware store and purchase Restore-a -Finish in the color closest to the color of the table. Take a lint free rag or an old T-shirt and use it to apply Restore on the table. Go in the direction of the wood. Put on one coat and let dry. Look at the surface and if that took care of all the surface discrepancies like the white rings and the discoloration in the wood, you are done. However, if after one coat you are not pleased – apply a second coat. After you are done, apply a protective coat of Feed N Wax to keep the finish looking good. Great question!
