Any Sharp Knife Sharpener

  • , by Trudy Chuoke Trudy Chuoke

How many of you sharpen your own knives? I try. When my husband was alive, I had the sharpest knives. He would sharpen my knives every time I pulled one out to use. And I miss having a sharp knife, but I don’t like knife sharpeners that you hold in your hand and then you draw your knife against it. I’m always worried that I will cut my fingers while trying to sharpen the knife. And so that’s why I am excited about the new little knife sharpener that I found at the National Hardware Show.

Any Sharp knife sharpener is about 2 inches tall and about 2 inch around. So, it’s small. It has a power grip suction base that will safely adhere to any smooth surface that keep sharpening safer and hands free. The tungsten steel blades are set at the perfect 20-degree angle to provide a professional result in seconds. You don’t have to be a pro; just pull you knife down through the blades 3-4 times no skill required. I have to admit, I was skeptical…. but they gave me one and as soon as I was home, I tried it out. It is good, really good. So, then I went to their website and watched some of the videos.

I didn’t know there were so many types of knives. My knives are inexpensive. And I found out – you don’t have to have an expensive knife; you just have to have a sharp one. This little sharpener will sharpen any straight blade all the way down to the tip. And it will sharpen serrated blades also. When you sharpen a serrated blade, just don’t put any pressure on the blade as you draw it through the sharpening blades. In the video, the chef sharpened a rusty trowel and then sliced a tomato paper thin. Well, that was an eye opener.

Now you don’t have to have someone sharpen your knives. It won’t matter if you have bargain knives or expensive knives, you can easily and safely sharpen either anytime you want. And then you can just put Any Sharp in the drawer because it won’t take up any room. It’s fits right in your cutlery drawer. Any Sharp is very reasonably priced and comes in a few colors. I think it’s a great gift idea and I plan on buying several for my single friends. If you have ever tried to slice zucchini with a dull knife, you are going to really like this sharpener.

Now to the email….

Question: Our dogs go with us everywhere. And I am probably not aware of the odor that dogs (very clean dogs) leave in our car. That is until we take family to dinner, and they comment that the car smells like animals. Well, I love my dogs, but I don’t want to offend my family, is there a deodorizer that smells nice that does not have an overwhelming sweet fragrance?

Answer: My daughter takes her animals everywhere with her and I keep her fully stocked with Air Sponges. It’s an odor neutralizer, not an air freshener. And there is a big difference. Air fresheners put a fragrance into the air; they do nothing to neutralize odors. So not only do you smell an odor, but you also smell this freshener on top of the odor. It’s usually pretty offensive. So that’s why I like Air Sponge. It comes in a ½ lb., 1 lb., and a 4 lb. For your car, the ½ lb. works great. Just open up the container and slip it under the seat. Its molecules will go up into the air and capture the odor molecules and bring them down to the floor where they are taken out with cleaning. But Air Sponge works in other areas as well. If you have musty smell in a vacation home or ranch, just keep an open-Air Sponge out on the counter tops. When you open the house – you will be greeted with this real clean smell, instead of the mustiness. If you have a smoker in the house, Air Sponge will counter act that smoke smell that lingers in the air. If you burn food, if you just painted, if the new rugs come with an odor- just simply opening up an Air Sponge in the room will be the answer.
